Patience

Image
Patience is not a virtue that comes easy to me.  In fact, I work very hard to make things happen in my life as quickly as possible. Gardening doesn't work that way.  It forces me to plan, plan, work and wait. This year we invested in a small greenhouse so that I could plant seeds earlier.  Last year I grew everything from seed but didn't start as early as I could have if I had had a green house.  It's really hard to find a dedicated space in the house.  I continue to grow with seeds from Baker Creek Farm.  The seeds have a high 'sprouting rate' and they produce very healthy plants. Growing everything from seed means I have to wait quite a while before I can even put a plant in the ground.  Last weekend, I planted the snap peas, lettuce and some onions.  All can withstand a few really cold nights at the beginning of the growing season.  I will have to wait 2 more weeks, or more, before I can put the rest of the vegetables in the ground.

Have to Start Somewhere

This growing season had me asking myself, again, if I should start a blog.  I loved having a blog when my kids were little but life got too busy and I stopped making time for it.  I am finding that gardening is a great source of calm and helps relieve the stresses of the day.  I am also finding that when I tell people how much I love to garden they tell me how much they would love to have help with theirs.  If I can provide just a little bit of information for anyone wanting to start or increase their garden, then this little experiment will have been worth it.
